Meet Maryam, an 18-year-old girl born into an economically disadvantaged family. She is often reserved and carries a belief that she lacks beauty due to her darker complexion. When she joined our center a year ago, her lack of confidence was evident. From the very beginning, I sensed that she was unique. Unfortunately, there were individuals opposed to our center’s work, which led to her leaving shortly after her initial enrollment, as her father was misled by them. However, Maryam returned. This time, she enrolled in our beauty salon training program, and gradually, I endeavored to instill in her a sense of her own beauty and capabilities.
Maryam successfully completed her beautician course, and she is now learning stitching. Throughout her training, I consistently emphasized the importance of education, asserting that without it, our potential remains untapped. A few days ago, she approached me expressing her desire to study. This was a significant milestone for us, and I promptly provided her with books and a school bag. Observing her immersed in her studies is a joy; she is the first in her family to pursue an education. Despite her quiet demeanor, I sense a profound drive within her, a determination to convey to those around her that she is exceptional. Someday, she will prove that true beauty is not confined to one’s appearance but is reflected in one’s character. Although her visage is indeed beautiful and innocent, it is her burgeoning spirit that truly shines.
Maryam also attends evening English classes, necessitating her presence at the center throughout the day. Her diligent efforts are commendable. She has already become a certified beautician and is on her way to completing her English language and stitching courses. Furthermore, she is pursuing formal education. Once we establish a computer center, she intends to learn computer skills, surpassing my own abilities. It is truly remarkable. Initially, her father was reluctant and preferred her to stay at home due to the influence of misguided individuals. However, he now personally drops her off and picks her up, demonstrating his growing support and pride in her achievements. I am filled with immense happiness and pride.
